In conjunction with NATO they were assisting in Humanitarian support to help some of the war torn civilians in Ukraine. During one of his off days, Jasper and some of his colleagues went diving in the Black Sea, but were unexpectedly attack by a huge shark. Everyone was caught off-guard since sharks of that size were never found in these waters. Most sharks in the Black Sea were small and posed no danger and the worst danger they could have encountered were stinging jellyfish. The shark came from behind them and attacked one of the divers killing him instantly. Jasper went to try and help his friend but he was too late. He started to swim away, but the shark had spotted him and came straight for him. As the shark got closer, Jasper noticed that it was deformed and almost had a crazed look in his eyes. He braced himself, and at the last second, pushed against the shark's nose to try to escape. His body swerved away somewhat but the shark still managed to take a bite out of his leg. Jasper then began to lose hope. The shark was coming back, and he was in no shape to escape. Fortunately, his colleagues had reached their boat and quickly sent out under water flares to scare the shark away. If not for the quick thinking of the others, Jasper would surely had been killed instead of badly injured. He was rushed to the nearest hospital and they were able to stabilize him, but Jasper fell into a coma. The bite the shark had inflicted was not his only problem. His body was also fighting a strange infection. He woke up two weeks later with no signs of injuries. His wound was completely healed and his body felt amazing. He also noticed that old injuries he had before his accident were gone as well. His doctor told him that he was in perfect shape but could not explain how he had healed so quickly. Jasper thanked him and got up, feeling full of strength and energy. When he returned to Australia, the Royal Navy ran test on him. They learned that alongside his increased strength, endurance and healing, Jasper could swim at incredible speed, and when he accidently sucked in some of the water, instead of coughing it out, his body adapted and he was able to breath in the water. A few weeks later, the shark was found and killed. Further studies revealed that its deformities had been caused by the radiation from Chernobyl. The shark had probably made its way into the Dead Sea through the Dnieper River watershed. The Navy decided to place Jasper into a different division where he would be trained in extensive hand to hand and weapons combat. When it came to choosing his personal weapon, Jasper opted for the bolo, a weapon he always loved as a kid. The military designed his special outfit and bolo, and gave him the code name, Blood Shark. Powers Swimming: Jasper can swim at excessive speed under water but can reach a surface speeds approaching 500 mph. Super strength: His physical strength has been estimated at roughly 1 ton of lift. Healing factor: His body can heal wounds in record time. Underwater breathing: His healing system also enables him to extract the oxygen present in water, allowing him to breath underwater.
