At night, she is a member of the all-female goth DJ team, The Dark Dominion, which also includes her friends Arielle (Arcana) and Esther (Etherea). In the recent past, she attended the Pittsburgh Art Institute along with Arielle, and was known as a spoiled, selfish rich girl who pursued the same boys that Arielle did, bringing the two occasionally into conflict. On the night when the dark meteorite exploded above Pittsburgh, Vanessa and Arielle were meeting with the club manager about future plans for their goth night. Bombarded with the radiation, Vanessa fell unconscious, and when she woke up, she discovered she had the power to control light and turn it solid. Instantly, she created a tight purple costume for herself with a moon-and-star logo, and proclaimed her superheroine name to be Lunessa, Mistress of the Moonlight, soon battling the villainous Industria who was trying to take over the nightclub. Shortly after that, all three members of the Dark Dominion (now a superhuman DJ team) joined the Pittsburgh Heroine League as charter members. Since then, Vanessa continues to run her business and DJ at the Captive Club, while participating actively in the League's efforts to defeat the supervillains of the Black Faction. No longer a spoiled brat, Lunessa's bravery and confidence has increased, as she has learned to care for others and appreciate the powerful women of the League as her friends and allies. Powers Photon manipulation: Lunessa can control photons of light and use them in various ways. Light projection: She can emit burst of light to stun and blind her enemies. Constructs: She can turn light into solid constructs like daggers that impact human flesh and cause painful spasms. She can bind her enemies with ropes of light or imprison them in cages. Barrier: Lunessa can erect a barrier of solid light to defend herself. When the light becomes solid, it is unbreakable, however, a strong force can destabilize her. Weaknesses: She has normal human strength and no invulnerability, so she can be defeated by blunt physical trauma or bullets from a gun if unprotected. She is not a strong physical fighter. |
