The human in their teleportation beam had not been alone. Along side him, an insect known as a preying mantis had made the journey with him, and when the beam rematerialized the human, his DNA had fused with that of the insect. The human, who would henceforth be known as Preyin Mantis, eventually escaped before the Hazaroth had time to study him. After that loss, they became obsessed with recreating the accident, and resumed their testing on newer abductees. Sam was one of them. After several failed experiments, they took Sam and spliced his DNA with that of a dragonfly. They also incorporated the DNA collected from super powered individuals, and finally got the correct formula. Sam grew wings similar to those of a dragonfly which allowed him to fly. The Hazaroth programmed his brain to take commands from them and worked on outfitting Sam with a gun covering his hand and forearm. The gun could fire off incredibly powerful energy blast. During one of his training missions, Sam found himself in a near death situation and built up a rush of adrenaline. The result caused him to shrink in size and mass to that of small insect. The gun on his arm, however, did not shrink with him and fell to the floor. A side effect of the ordeal caused Sam to regain his free will. He decided it was best to pretend he was still under their control until a better opportunity of escape presented itself. The Hazaroth refitted him with the same type of gun but this one was connected to his nervous system enabling it to change size along with his body, and after a few more training exercises they decided to do a test run. Sam was to use his new abilities to infiltrate a military base on Earth. This was Sam's chance to escape. After he got inside the military base, he approached a person who looked to be in charge and told him everything that had happened. Fortunately for Sam, this base housed the supergroup called the Thunder Squad. Once the aliens realized what was happening, they tried to retrieve what they considered their property but the Thunder Squad in conjunction with the Military and Sam fought back the Hazaroth. Sam was offered a position in the Thunder Squad where he took the code name, Dragunfly, and fights along side them to this day. Powers Size changing: He can shrink down to the size of a small insect while retaining his normal strength. Flight: Sam's wings enable him to fly at a max speed of 200 mph. Paraphernalia: Sam wears an arm gun created by the Hazaroth and altered by the military. It fires powerful energy blasts. |
